In 1990 Government has created a Wage Earners’ Welfare Board (WEWB) under the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare & Overseas Employment.To extend welfare services to the migrant workers as per provision no. 19(1) of Emigration Ordinance-1982 and section 47 of Overseas Employment & Migration Act 2013. “Wage Earners’ Welfare Board” has been established as a statutory body through “Wage Earners Welfare Board Act, 2018”. A Board of Directors comprising representatives of different ministries.
To build a transparent, accountable and welfare oriented institution to provide services to the doorsteps of migrant workers and their families; Financial support for the migrant workers and their families; Scholarship has been given to meritorious children of migrant workers; Making necessary steps for the rehabilitation of returnee workers; Inclusion of the unregistered workers and non-resident Bangladeshis (Diaspora) as a member of the board’s database for their welfare; And For the welfare of the migrant workers, WEWB is being given financial support for strengthening the Labour Wing of Bangladesh Mission in abroad.
